Adaptogens 101

Adaptogens are my JAM! I love to make homemade adaptogen elixirs. Just the process of creating these elixirs are so therapeutic. I also believe there is a bit of creativity and art that goes into creating the blends that I absolute love.

So what are adaptogens? Adaptogens are a class of plant-based herbs that help the body to “adapt” to perceived stressors.


Why are they important?

We live in a world where we are constantly absorbing information, receiving signals, interacting and moving. If you are anything like me, you are constantly on the go and with a young family there is only so much slowing down our bodies can do. What this means is that our nervous systems and can constantly be in a “fight or flight” state. This state really is meant to help us get out of highly dangerous situations, but due to the complexities of modern life, interaction with cell phones, media, news, information, we can trigger this state more often than we should. Existing in this state in any sustained fashion is detrimental to our health.


This is where adaptogens come in.

Adaptogens work with our bodies to return it back to a more balanced state. In this state we can process stress in a more meaningful healthy manner and we can exist in a more balanced state. These plants are powerful. I have first hand experienced the benefits of adaptogens and use them often to bring my body back into balance. I find the best results come from using them continuously and consistently over time and keep them in my wellness arsenal- similar to acupuncture- to remain proactive with stress management.
