The How To: Shopping Natural Deodorant
Updated: Apr 26
If you are new to going natural, you likely first started with a deodorant. I must say it does take a bit of trial and error to find the right scent, brand and ingredients that keep you fresh and don’t cause irritation.
Here’s my shopping guide for natural deos:
1. If you tend to have a strong smell, you may want to try a deodorant that has baking soda (as baking soda is a natural odor suppressant).
2. If you tend to get irritated under arms, it could be the concentration of baking soda. For some people, too much baking soda with no layer of protection from hair can cause irritation and discomfort under the arms - try baking soda free!
3. For a more muted or feminine scent, go for floral scents like rose and geranium. Lavender is also a balanced scent that tends to be refreshing and gentle.
4. For a more masculine scent, look for tea tree oil as the essential oil fragrance.
If you are looking for a brand of deodorants that are all natural, plant based, cruelty free and zero waste, try Meow Meow Tweet. They come in a range of scents for both feminine and masculine and offer both baking soda and baking soda free options. They also come in post consumer recyclable paper or in a reusable glass container.
Pro Tip – For protection under the arms, use their under arm primer before deodorant use!
